Who is Stuart Rojstaczer?

Stuart Rojstaczer is an American writer, scientist, and musician. He is a former Duke University geophysics professor.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His parents were both Polish-Jewish, post-WWII immigrants. He was educated in public and Orthodox Hasidic schools and received degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Illinois, and Stanford University.

He has published a memoir, Gone for Good. He has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post and many other major periodicals. He has written research articles in hydrology, ecology, geophysics, and geology for Science, Nature, and many other scientific journals.

In the 2000s, he became interested in grade inflation. He maintains a web site, gradeinflation.com, on the topic of college grading; he has published articles on grading in the Teachers College Record and has appeared on NPR and other major media outlets to discuss this topic.

In the 2000s, he also began to perform and write music professionally, and write literary fiction. His awards include Karma Foundation Annual Short Story Finalist and National Science Foundation Young Investigator.
