Who is Sylvia Allen?

Sylvia Tenney Allen is an American politician from Arizona. A member of the Arizona State Senate until 2012 she is currently Supervisor for District III of Navajo County.

An activist for the Snowflake Republican Party, she was appointed to the State Senate following the death of Senator Jake Flake. She represented the 5th legislative district, centering on Snowflake, Arizona.

Following her appointment, she was elected in her own right later in 2008. In the 2009–10 legislature, she was a member of four standing committees: Appropriations; Education Accountability and Reform; Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Public Debt; and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Welfare. She served as chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Welfare for the Arizona Senate.

Sylvia Allen is widely known across the internet for controversial remarks concerning illegal immigration, the earth and religion. The most well known examples are her "The Earth is only 6000 years old" remark which has been re-posted on thousands of platforms across the net and turned into a chain email. Sylvia Allen also supported Arizona's controversial immigration law SB 1070; her open letter explaining the law has also become a viral entity online and in email chains. The senator also drew national attention - and scorn - for complaining that trees were "stealing Arizona's water supply".
