Who was Thomas Abel Brimage Spratt?
Thomas Abel Brimage Spratt was an English vice-admiral, hydrographer, and geologist.
He was born at Woodway House, East Teignmouth and is the eldest surviving son of Commander James Spratt, RN, who was a hero of the Battle of Trafalgar. He joined the Royal Navy at age 16 in 1827 and was attached to the surveying branch on HMS Victory. He was engaged almost continuously until 1863 in surveying the Mediterranean.
