Who is Tommy Ryan?
Tommy Ryan is an Australian former rugby league footballer. A prolific try scorer, He played in Sydney's New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership with the St. George club throughout the 1950s and also represented Australia.
Originally from Inverell, New South Wales, Ryan represented New South Wales against the American 'All Stars' in 1953. Tommy Ryan scored 24 tries in 20 matches whilst on tour with the 1952/53 Kangaroos. He is listed on the Australian Players Register as Kangaroo No. 299. Ryan made his first Grand Final appearance for the Dragons in 1953. In 1955 he played in Queensland and represented the state. He played in the 1956 and 1957 Grand Final victories and was the competition's leading try scorer in 1956 and 1957; the latter standing as a St. George club record.
