Who was William Vaughan?

William Vaughan was a British clergyman who held high office in the Roman Catholic Church.

He was born on 14 February 1814 in London, England. He was ordained a priest in March 1838 and was elevated to the episcopate as Bishop of Plymouth on 10 July 1855, a post he held until his death on 24 October 1902.

It is to him that the diocese of Plymouth owes its first organisation and consolidation.

St Boniface's Catholic College in Plymouth has a House named after him.
