Who is Abhijeet Gupta?
Besides, Abhijeet has won many laurels for India, winning 20 medals in all in various World, Asian and Commonwealth Chess Championships in Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Category. Abhijeet became National Junior Chess Champion at the age of 13 years and 10 days in 2002, a record unsurpassed till 2011. Thanks to this achievement, his name was included in the Limca Book of Records in 2001 as the permanent record holder. He was trained by IM Vishal Sareen.
Abhijeet became an International Master in 2005 and went on to become an International Grand Master in the year 2008. Abhijeet started playing chess at the age of 6 and half years and in his very first National Championship he secured the Gold Medal.
In the last few years Abhijeet has had some tremendous successes. In the year 2012 won one gold and two silver medals in the recently concluded Asian Nations Chess Cup in China. He then also finished clear first in Philadelhia International in USA and the Kavala International in Greece. The year 2011 was his best so far with as many as three victories in the international tournaments and the national title. All international tournament victories were excellent efforts and the first was achieved at the Dubai International open tournament at Dubai in April 2011. This event is considered as one of the strongest open of the world. Abhijeet followed it up by winning the National title and then went on to win the Vizag International tournament before ending the year on a high with a brilliant 8/9 first place finish at the London Chess Classic FIDE open.
