Who is Abigail Pogrebin?
Abigail Pogrebin is an American writer known for her first book, Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk About Being Jewish, which was published by Doubleday in 2005. She moderated four evenings at the 92nd Street Y with Jewish celebrities from her book, including Jason Alexander, Leonard Nimoy, Beverly Sills, Morley Safer, and Kyra Sedgwick.
She has written for magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, New York Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Salon.com, and Parents.
Her second book, One and the Same: My Life As an Identical Twin and What I’ve Learned About Everyone’s Struggle to Be Singular, was published in October 2009.
She was one of the original producers of the Charlie Rose show on PBS and produced Bill Moyers’ series on the 1992 election: “Listening to America.” She then became an associate producer for Ed Bradley at 60 Minutes then became a producer, also producing pieces for Mike Wallace as well as Bradley. She was nominated for an Emmy for her 60 Minutes profile of Candice Bergen.
She attended Yale University and graduated in 1987, summa cum laude.
Her mother is Letty Cottin Pogrebin, co-founder of Ms. Magazine and her twin sister is Robin Pogrebin, who is a culture reporter for The New York Times. She is married to David P. Shapiro, a founding partner of KPS Capital Partners in New York City.
