Who is Adnan Polat?

Adnan Polat, is a Turkish businessman born in Erzurum, in north-east Turkey. He is past the chairman of the Turkish sports club Galatasaray.

After graduating from high school in 1976, he went on to study business administration at Long Island University, in USA. He returned to Turkey to work in his family's construction business. After 1981, he joined Ege Ceramics as CEO for 10 years. He is currently the President of the Turkish Ceramics Federation.

In 1999, Polat was a candidate for Mayor of Istanbul, but lost to Ali Müfit Gürtuna.

He married in 1980, and has two children. Polat has been the honorary consul for Thailand in Turkey since 1997, and was awarded an Italian order of merit in 2007.

Polat was vice president of Galatasaray S.K. between 1992 – 1996 under the presidency of Alp Yalman. He also served as a vice president under the presidency of Özhan Canaydın.

In March 2008, Polat replaced Canaydin to become the 33rd President of Galatasaray SK, winning the club congress' election by a wide margin.
