Who was Adolf Merckle?
Dr. Adolf Merckle was born on March 18, 1934. He is a businessman and one of the richest people in Germany. Although most of his wealth comes from inheritance, Adolf developed his grandfather's chemical wholesale company, Phoenix Pharmahandel, into Germany's largest pharmaceutical wholesaler. He resided in Germany with his wife and 4 children. In November 2008, he asked his town of Manheim, Germany for a cash bailout. He committed suicide on January 5, 2009 after his business empire ran into a financial crisis. His body was found on some railroad tracks near his home after being reported missing earlier that day.
