Who is Aidan O'Mahony?

Aidan O'Mahony is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Kerry senior football team. O'Mahony is a member of An Garda Síochána. O'Mahony played for Kerry's U21 team in 2000 and 2001. O'Mahony made his debut for the Kerry senior football team in the 2003 League Campaign and versus Clare in the Championship in 2004. He was on the starting team on the 2004 All-Ireland winning team against Mayo. He repeated the performance in the 2006 All-Ireland final which was also against Mayo. Kerry dominated the game, and Mayo were defeated easily by a scoreline of 4-15 to 3-05, and O'Mahony picked up the RTÉ Man of the Match Award for his marking of Ciaran MacDonald and scoring of 2 points. He won further All-Ireland medals in 2006 and 2007, gaining an All-Star in each of those years. O'Mahony has two National Football league medals for Kerry from 2004 and 2005. He has also won the Munster club championship with his club Rathmore.

In 2008, O'Mahony again played an important part as Kerry reached the All-Ireland final, defeating Cork in the semi-final. Many Cork fans were angered by O'Mahony's role in the sending off of Cork forward Donnacha O'Connor. His collapse to the ground after O'Connor slapped him was described as a deliberate dive. In 2010 O'Mahony announced he was taking a break from inter-county football after Kerry's National Football League Campaign for personal reasons, he however returned to the panel for the Championship.
