Who is Alan Harre?

Dr. Alan Harre was the seventeenth president of Valparaiso University, a post he held for 20 years from 1988 to 2008. Harre announced that he would retire following the 2007-2008 school year. He was followed by the current president: Mark A. Heckler.

On December 18, 2007, Valparaiso University announced Mark A. Heckler, provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at University of Colorado Denver, as Alan Harre's successor. Harre was designated President Emeritus of Valparaiso University on July 1, 2008 and was voted one of Valparaiso University's 150 most influential people in history by 2009.
