Who is Aleksandrs Mirskis?

Aleksandrs Mirskis is a Latvian politician.

Mirskis was born in Vilnius. He is a graduate in civil engineering from the Polytechnic Institute in Kaunas. Mirskis worked as a building project leader, taking one year break for service in the Soviet Army as commander of a radiation reconnaissance unit. Upon ending his service, with the rank of first lieutenant, he resumed his work in construction.

In 1992, Mirskis was made a technical director and seven years later became the general manager of a construction company. He retired from business to become an advisor to the mayor of Riga, later being elected to Saeima, the Latvian parliament.

After July 2009 he was serving as 1 of the 9 Latvian MEPs in the European parliament, affiliated with the Socialists and Democrats parliamentary group. Mirskis was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and a substitute in the Committee on Regional Development. He was not re-elected at the European election in 2014
