Alex Tudor-Hart
Physician, Person
Who is Alex Tudor-Hart?
Dr. Alex Tudor Hart, MD BSc, a member of a well-known British artistic and radical family, was a student of John Maynard Keynes at Cambridge and then, later, of Melanie Klein. A Communist, he worked as a GP in the Rhondda Valley in Wales and served in a field operating theatre in the Spanish civil war. Methods of dealing with fractures and associated wounds after surgery developed by Tudor-Hart when he worked in Spain continued to save lives in the Second World war. His second wife was the Austrian Jewish photographer, Edith Suschitzky, who fled to England in 1933 so that she could avoid prosecution for Communist activities in Austria.
