Who was Alexander Ireland?
Alexander "Alex" Ireland born in Leith was a Scottish amateur and professional welter/middleweight boxer of the 1920s and '30s, who was the 1921 Amateur Boxing Association of England welterweight champion, and won a silver medal in the welterweight boxing at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium losing to Canadian boxer Bert Schneider in the final, and won the Scottish Area welterweight title, the National Sporting Club British middleweight title, British Empire middleweight title, and European Boxing Union middleweight title, and was a challenger for the Scottish Area middleweight title, his professional fighting weight varied from 146 lb, i.e. welterweight to 151 lb, i.e. middleweight.
