Who was Alexander Porter?

Alexander Porter was an attorney, politician and planter in the United States, who served as United States Senator from Louisiana, serving 1833 to 1837. Born in County Donegal, he had immigrated in 1801 at the age of 16 with an uncle to the United States. He also served a term in the Louisiana House, from 1816-1818, and as a judge of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 1821 to 1833.
