Who was Alexander S. McDill?

Alexander Stuart McDill was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin.

Born near Meadville, Pennsylvania, McDill attended Allegheny College. He was graduated from Cleveland Medical College in 1848 and practiced medicine in Crawford County, Pennsylvania from 1848 to 1856. He moved to Plover, Wisconsin, in 1856. He served as member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1862. He served as member of the board of managers of the Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane 1862-1868. He served in the Wisconsin State Senate in 1863 and 1864. He was the medical superintendent of the Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane from 1868 to 1873 and also in 1875.

McDill was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress. He was the first member elected to Wisconsin's newly created 8th congressional district. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Forty-fourth Congress. He died near Madison, Wisconsin, November 12, 1875. He was interred in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Wisconsin.
