Who is Andre Royal?
Andre Tierre Royal is a former professional football player in the National Football League who played linebacker for five seasons for the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts.
Royal signed a guaranteed $3.085 million contract with the Saints as a free agent after previously attaining All-Pro status with the Carolina Panthers, and was expected to start at strong-side linebacker. He was replaced in the Saints' final exhibition game by backup Keith Mitchell, and was traded to the Colts in exchange for tight end Scott Slutzker. The Saints were short-handed at tight end due to injuries, including a hazing incident injury to Cam Cleeland, which Royal admitted to taking part in, hitting Cleeland in the eye with a sock filled with coins and causing him permanent injuries.
