Who is Andrea Belvedere?

Abate Andrea Belvedere was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He was born at Naples and a pupil of Giovan Battista Ruoppolo, and excelled in painting still-life paintings of fruit and flowers. He moved to Spain in 1692, and was employed by Charles II of Spain; and in conjunction with Luca Giordano, he helped decorate the Escorial. Napier describes Belvedere as imitator, yet also a competitor of the Flemish still-life painter Abraham Brueghel. Among his pupils were Baldassare de Caro and Tommaso Realfonso.
