Who is Anju Chaudhuri?

Anju Chaudhuri grew up in an intellectual Bengali family who were very attached to tradition. From her earliest childhood, many different and formative experiences influenced her. Firstly in India, where she was regularly exposed to Hindu history and numerous trips to the mountains and the sea. Before her culture shock upon arrival in the West, Chaudhuri discovered western Indian culture at the faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda.

She then left for Europe, where she studied at Saint Martins School of Art in London and afterwards, the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Chaudhuri has experienced many different important and culturally diverse moments in time: London in the sixties; the magic of discovering Paris; her mentor and master, Hayter; May 68 in Paris; Amsterdam in the seventies. During this time, the artist traveled extensively between Europe and the sub continent.

Chaudhuri has exhibited in many shows in India, Europe and Japan. Her works are in public collections such as the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, at the Bronx Museum in New York, at the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain and at the Musée de la Réunion.
