Who was Anni Becker?

Anni Becker was a writer and performer of popular and folk songs. She was a teacher by profession and taught until 1991. Her songs come out of the tradition of folk music as well as the German cabaret. Many of her songs are in Pfälzisch, the dialect of the region she grew up in. Anni Becker has received a number of awards, including the Nürnberg Bard's Prize. She has published 11 song books and made several records. Anni Becker writes and sings songs that frequently have a political and social content. Two common themes are equal rights for women and the pollution of the environment.
