1980 –
Who is Anomie Belle?
Anomie Belle is an American musician and artivist. As a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer, Anomie writes, records and produces her solo work. Originally a classically trained violinist and songwriter from Portland, Anomie began recording her own music as a child. She has since worked as a musician and producer in Madrid, Glasgow, Amsterdam, New York, Buenos Aires, and London before moving to Seattle in 2006. She is also active as a film composer.
Her material grapples with issues ranging from suburban alienation to human spirituality, sexuality and critiques of corporate power. She also highlights these issues by creating Culture Jams in collaboration with other artists, such as The Yes Men. Anomie is openly queer and throughout her work she blurs typical representations of sexuality.
