Who was Anthony Garofoli?
Anthony Garofoli was an American politician of the Democratic Party in Cleveland, Ohio. Garofoli was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but came to Cleveland to study at John Carroll University. He served on Cleveland City Council representing the Little Italy neighborhood of Cleveland, and was involved with mobsters. Garofoli ended his career on council as President of the body. After an unsuccessful attempt at running for Mayor in 1971, Garofoli resumed the practice of law full-time, but remained active in Democratic party affairs becoming co-chairmen of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party.
After an unsuccessful attempt at becoming Cuyahoga County Commissioner, Garofoli became the principal in the law firm of Climaco, Climaco, Seminatore, Lefkowitz, Kaplan and Garofoli. During this time, he remained active in the Democratic party, but behind the scenes.
