Who is Arsénio Trindade Duarte?

Arsénio Trindade Duarte, simply Arsénio was a footballer who played as a forward, notably at Portuguese giants S.L. Benfica.

Arsénio started his career at Barreirense and debuted when only 15 years old against Sporting CP, in a friendly game to commemorate the farewell of Francisco Câmara. That same year Arsénio would become Portuguese Segunda Liga Champion. The young prodigy would eventually sign with Benfica.

He began playing with the Benfica Jersey on 19 December 1943, when he was only 18 years old. He would enjoy great success at the Lisbon club playing 446 games and scoring 350 goals. He played for 12 Seasons with the reds shirt from 1943 to 1955.

Arsénio eventually moved to CUF due to the arrival of coach Otto Glória to Benfica, and the professionalism of football that the Brazilian coach was bringing with him. Arsénio preferred to play and at the same time maintain his post as an industrial worker, something that was not possible with the arrival of Otto Glória.
