Who was Arthur Pain?
Arthur Wellesley Pain was an Anglican bishop and the first Bishop of Gippsland from 1902 until 1917.
Born in Felmersham and educated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, he was ordained in 1866. He began his career as curate of Holbrook, Suffolk before emigrating to Australia. Here he was the incumbent of Narellan, NSW then Rural Dean of Camden and after that East Sydney before his ordination to the episcopate in 1902.
