Who was Astrid Henning-Jensen?
Astrid Henning-Jensen was a Danish film director and screenwriter. Her film Paw was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1959.
Born as Astrid Smahl in Frederiksberg, Denmark, she began her career as an actress. After becoming a director she directed over 20 films. Her films often dealt with women's and children's issues. Her debut film, Palle Alene I Verden won the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 1949 Cannes Film Festival. She won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 29th Berlin International Film Festival for her film Winterborn, and she was a member of the jury at the 31st Berlin International Film Festival.
His 1986 film Early Spring was entered into the 15th Moscow International Film Festival.
In 1996 Henning-Jensen was awarded with the Berlinale Camera award at the 46th Berlin International Film Festival.
She died in Copenhagen from natural causes at age 87.
