Bálint Tóth

Who is Bálint Tóth?

Bálint Tόth is a Hungarian mathematician whose work concerns probability theory. He has worked in various fields of probability theory and mathematical physics, for example in microscopic models of Brownian motion, quantum spin systems, limit theorems for random walks with long memory and non-conventional stochastic processes, hydrodynamic limits, etc. In particular, Tόth contributed significantly to the theory of self-interacting motions, that is, motions that are "reinforced", "self-avoiding" or "self-repellent". In 1994 he received the Mathematical Prize awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

From 2005 to 2009 Bálint Tόth was the director of the Institute of Mathematics of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Tόth is a close collaborator of Wendelin Werner.
