Who was Beans Reardon?

John Edward "Beans" Reardon was an American umpire in Major League Baseball who worked in the National League from 1926 to 1949. He worked five World Series and three All-Star Games. He is depicted as the central figure in illustrator Norman Rockwell's Bottom of the Sixth.
