Who was Bertha Fry?
Bertha Fry was an American supercentenarian. She was age 113 years 348 days old at the time of her death. She lived in Muncie, Indiana.
Fry was born in a farm in Vevay, Indiana. There has been remarkable longevity in her family. Her mother lived to 90, and her father lived to be 95. Her first husband died in the 1930s, and she re-married during the Second World War.
At the time of her death she was the third-oldest living person in the world, although she was only the second-oldest in the state of Indiana. Edna Parker, who resided in Shelbyville, Indiana, was several months older. At the age of 113, on April 21, 2007, Fry met with Parker, who at the time was the second-oldest living person in the world, she had turned 114 the previous day. This set the highest combined age of two supercentenarians meeting at 227 years. Fry died at the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, of pneumonia.
