Who was Brendan Bracken, 1st Viscount Bracken?

Brendan Bracken, 1st Viscount Bracken, PC, was an Irish-born businessman and a minister in the British Conservative cabinet. He is best remembered for opposing the Bank of England's co-operation with Adolf Hitler, and for subsequently supporting Winston Churchill's prosecution of the Second World War against Hitler. He was also the founder of the modern version of the Financial Times. He served as Minister of Information from 1941 to 1945. George Orwell was a civil servant under Bracken's department during the war years.
