Cainan
Male, Person
Who is Cainan?
According to Genesis 11:12, Arpachshads son is Shelah. However, the Septuagint (Genesis 10:24), Luke 3:36 and Jubilees 8:1 all state that Arpachshad had a son called Cainam, who in turn had a son called Shelah.According to http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/580, one interpretation is that both are correct, in that the sentence became the father of in Genesis 11:12 could be interpreted as ancestor of or in this case, grandfather. As Jubilees does go into a fair amount of detail on Cainam (giving less credence to the copyist error reasoning), for now I am inserting him in the family tree. Personally, I suspect he was left out of Genesis because of political reasons.
