Who is Camelia Voin?

CAMELIA VOIN, is a lyric coloratura soprano born in Lugoj, Romania, on July 4, 1972. She is a lecturer at the University of California and Professor of Voice at California Baptist University, both in Riverside.EARLY LIFE AND STUDIESVoin's father is a retired forester and church cantor, and her mother is a retired professor of mathematics. In Romania she studied viola at the School of Music Ion Vidu in Timisoara (Liceul de Musica Ion Vidu) and voice at the Conservatory of Music in Bucharest, currently known as the National University of Music Bucharest. Here, she studied with three of the most prominent Romanian sopranos and voice educators: Arta Florescu, Magda Ianculescu, and Maria Slatinaru-Nistor. In 1993, Voin immigrated to the United States where she continued her studies in California at the University of Redlands earning her Bachelors degree in 1996, and Claremont Graduate University, earning her Masters degree in 2007 in vocal performance. Voin has won several vocal competitions including Metropolitan Opera Competition, Palm Beach Opera Competition, Der Internationale Koloraturgesang-Wettbewerb in Stuttgart, Concurso Internacional de Canto Julian Gayarre, and the 2009 Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition.CAREERVoin performs both in the U.S. and Europe, as a soloist in opera and oratorio. Her opera roles include Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Olympia in Les contes d'Hoffmann and the title role in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. In 2000, Voin co-founded the Loma Linda Lyric Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. With this organization she performed, as soloist, in more than 100 operatic and oratorio concerts throughout Southern California. Between 2001 and 2003, Voin participated in the ambitious quest of the Germans German conductor, composer and organist, Horst Gehann, to perform in public concerts, in the city of Darmstadt, the complete works of J. S. Bach (Bach-Werke-Zyklus). Here she was invited to perform some of the most demanding works for coloratura soprano such as Cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen (BWV 51), and Cantata Ich bin in mir vergnügt (BWV 204), among others. On January 25, 2009, Voin performed in recital at Carnegie Hall.
