Who is Catherine Branson?

Catherine Margaret Branson QC is a former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, serving between 2008 and 2012 and a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia between 1994 and 2008.

Branson graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. After graduating, Branson taught full-time for two years at the University of Adelaide Law School.

Branson practiced as a barrister at the South Australian bar, practicing principally in the areas of administrative law and commercial law. She was Crown Solicitor of South Australia from 1984-1989.

Branson is also a past President of the Australian Institute for Judicial Administration.
