Who is Charles Bartlett Johnson?
Charles Bartlett Johnson is an American businessman. With an estimated current net worth of around $5.6 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 211th-richest person in the world.
With his brother Rupert Johnson, Jr., Johnson served as chairman of Franklin Resources, a mutual fund company started by Rupert Sr. in 1947. He is a former Army lieutenant.
Charles Johnson is married and has six children. Charles' son Gregory serves as president and CEO of Franklin Resources. His wife Ann, who became a medical doctor after raising her family, supervised the notable restoration of the Carolands Chateau.
On September 30, 2013, Yale President Peter Salovey announced in an email to Yale alumni that "Charles B. Johnson ’54 has pledged $250 million—the largest gift in Yale’s history—to support the expansion of Yale College through the construction of two new residential colleges." Yale currently has 12 undergraduate residential colleges.
Johnson is currently principal owner of the MLB San Francisco Giants, although he leaves team control duties to the head of the ownership group, Larry Baer.
