Who is Damaris Hayman?

Damaris Hayman is an actress best known for character roles on television.

Hayman was born in Kensington, London, England and educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College. After repertory work in the theatre, she made her film début in The Belles of St Trinian's in an uncredited role. She featured in the Doctor Who serial The Dæmons as Miss Hawthorne, the self-proclaimed White Witch of the village Devil's End. She has also appeared in such comedies as Steptoe and Son, One Foot In The Grave and Sez Les, and the films Mutiny on the Buses, Love Thy Neighbour, Confessions of a Driving Instructor and The Missionary. She has also worked with Ronnie Barker, appearing in the one episode of the last series he wrote and performed in: Clarence. In a radio programme on Margaret Rutherford at the end of 2012 it was stated that Hayman acted as a stand-in for the actress.

After appearing in a sketch in Tony Hancock's last British TV series in 1967, she became a close friend of the comedian in the remaining year of his life.
