Who is Daniel J. Burke?
Daniel J. Burke is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 23rd District since 1991. Burke's district includes City of Chicago community areas of Archer Heights, Chicago Lawn, Gage Park, Garfield Ridge, South Lawndale, West Elsdon, West Lawn, and a portion of the municipality of Berwyn.
March 14, 2014 Representative Daniel Burke added amendment #1 to Illinois house bill 4036 which would outlaw the sale of un-pasteurized milk in the state of Illinois. Since 2012, Illinois department of public health had been trying to create new rules to govern the sale of raw milk in Illinois. They created a dairy workgroup made up of raw milk farmers, consumers, health officials, and pasteurized milk dealers. The group had worked very hard for over a year, meeting several times, trying to work out rules both sides could agree on. Daniel Burke circumvented the farmers, consumers, and IDPH, when he created the amendment to ban all raw milk sales in Illinois.
