Who is Darren Johnson?

Darren Johnson is a New York State political leader, founding the Integrity Party in 2004, an affiliate of the national American Reform Party. He previously was a county leaders and state committeeman in the Liberal Party of New York and ran for New York State Assembly in 2002. He's also a widely published writer and journalist, named Writer of the Year in 1996 by the New York Press Association. His 1994 novel I Do Not Prefer to Have Sex is a minor cult classic. Johnson also teaches journalism at Suffolk County Community College.

Johnson's Integrity Party got on the ballot across Long Island in 2005-2008, despite New York's arcane system of ballot access, and helped elect a new Sheriff in Suffolk County, Vincent Demarco, and Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot, among others. The Integrity Party, an affiliate of The American Reform Party, regularly runs its own candidates as well as cross-endorses some major party candidates using New York's unique fusion ballot system. Sometimes in Suffolk County, a New York suburb of 1.5 million people, the Integrity Party is the only alternative party to run a candidate against Democrats and Republicans who cross-endorse each other.
