Who was Deasún Breathnach?
Deasún Breathnach was an Irish writer and journalist. He wrote Irish poetry, non-fiction, fiction, and translations. He was a journalist and sub-editor at the Irish Independent. He used the pseudonym "Rex McGall" for his writing in English at the Irish Independent. He worked as a features editor for the Irish Press. He was also editor of An Phoblacht. He died on 4 October 2007, his wife Lucy predeceased him one week previously.
His son Osgur was arrested along with other members of the IRSP for the 1976 Sallins Train Robbery and statements taken under duress. He was acquitted in 1980.
His daughter Lucilita Breathnach an Irish language activist, was a general secretary of Sinn Féin and ard comhairle member.
