Who was Diana Scultori?

Diana Scultori was an Italian engraver, born in Mantua. She signed her work Diana Mantovana or Diana Mantuana, in reference to city of her birth. She was recorded as the first woman ever allowed to sell her work under her own name.

Her family name is often wrongly given in older sources as "Ghisi", due to a mistaken belief that another Mantuan engraver, Giorgio Ghisi, who sometimes used the name "Mantovano", was her brother.'
