Who is Dilip Shanghvi?

Dilip Shanghvi is the founder and managing director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited. Sun Pharma was founded in 1983 and it is currently the second-largest drugmaker in India. Appreciation of the Sun Pharma stock led to a 50% surge in his personal wealth, amounting to USD 4.7 billion. Sanghvi is now the third richest Indian pushing the IT czar Azim Premji to the 4th spot. With March 2013 revenues of about Rs.11,240 crores, of which over 70% is from international markets. Sun Pharma has the largest US presence amongst all Indian generic drug companies, and is the 5th largest Indian company in the US.

Sun Pharma is the fastest growing, most profitable and highest valued pharmaceutical company in India. Sun Pharma, as a start-up, had its first year revenues of USD 0.02 million in 1983.

Mr. Shanghvi is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Advanced Research Company Ltd.; an International pharmaceutical company engaged in research and development of drugs and delivery systems. SPARC, created in 2007 by the de-merger of innovative business from Sun Pharma, is the first pure-R&D company to be listed on the Indian stock exchanges.
