Who was Dimitrije Bašičević?
Dimitrije Bašičević was an artist, critic and curator, working under the pseudonym Mangelos. He made handmade books, sculptures and paintings.
Bašičević was born in Šid, Serbia, the son of the painter Ilija Bašičević. He was co-founder and director of Gallery of Primitive Art in Zagreb. Later he became the director of Centre for Film, Photography and TV. Mangelos shared his anti-art ideas with the Gorgona Group. He died in Zagreb, Croatia.
His works are held in the collection of the Tate.
