Who was Dirck Rembrantsz van Nierop?
Dirck Rembrandtsz van Nierop was a seventeenth-century Dutch cartographer, mathematician, surveyor, astronomer, teacher and vermaner.
Van Nierop was born and died at Nieuwe Niedorp, Holland. He has more than thirty scientific publications to his name like New Dubbelt Nierper Graed-boeck that reprinted nine times in 1683, and the Renal Upper almanacs annually from 1655 to 1683 and published an adaptation of the journal of Abel Tasman. He also gave many designs of sundials to his name. In addition he was a consultant in the field of navigational charts and active for the VOC. As a teacher of steersmen and captains, he was the teacher of later celebrities such as:
