Who is Zacarias Kamwenho?

Zacarias Kamwenho is an Angolan archbishop and peace activist.

He made a bishop in 1974 and has served as the Archbishop of Lubango since 1997. In 2001 he acted as a mediator in the Angolan Civil War and chaired the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe and the Ecumenical Committee for Peace in Angola, which was established in April 2000 and brings together the Catholic CEAST, the Angolan Evangelical Alliance and the Council of Christian Churches in Angola

He was named co-winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament in 2001.
