Who was Don Familton?
Don Familton was an American boxing trainer and actor born in Cleveland, Ohio. He had resided in Culver City, California, prior to his death.
As a young man, Familton coached volleyball for the Hollywood YMCA before going on to coach football for several high schools and junior colleges. Later, he became a boxing trainer for the YMCA, where he taught many amateur boxers. Prior to his death, he trained fighters out of Garcia Boxing, a gym in Salinas, California.
He gained recognition in boxing circles for producing a five volume set of instructional videos and some interviews called "Don Familton's Superior Boxing" under the Straight Blast Gym moniker. He was well known as fundamentalist and science based classical boxing coach and great teacher of boxing as sport of art.
