Who was Eddie Mannix?

Joseph Edgar Allen John Mannix aka Edgar J. "Eddie" Mannix was an American film studio executive.

Mannix was born in Fort Lee, New Jersey, the son of John and Lizzie Mannix. Christened Joseph Edgar Allen John Mannix, he used Edgar Joseph Mannix as his official name, but was known to most associates as Eddie. After working as a bouncer and then treasurer of the Palisades Park Amusement Park, he became involved in motion picture exhibition, eventually working his way up to general manager and vice-president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Mannix was tangentially associated with the death of George Reeves, the star of the Adventures of Superman television series. Reeves's death on June 16, 1959, was ruled a suicide, but controversy surrounds the death, as Reeves' prints were never found on the gun, and he had been having an affair with Mannix's wife, the ex-showgirl Toni Mannix.

Mannix died in Beverly Hills, California in 1963, aged 72, and was buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Los Angeles County. James Stewart and Robert Taylor were pallbearers.
