Who is Edmundo Desnoes?
Edmundo Desnoes, is a renowned Cuban writer, author of the novel Memorias del subdesarrollo, a complex story depicting the alienation of a Cuban bourgeois struggling to adapt to the process of the Revolution. He originally called the work Inconsolable Memories in the first English edition. The book was adapted into a seminal Latin American film by the late director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea in 1968. He was the one that called it Memories Of Underdevelopment, the name by which it is today known in the English-speaking world.
During the 1960s and 1970s performed as an art critic and wrote many essays. He has lived in New York City in the United States since 1979. In 2008 he published Memorias del Desarrollo a follow-up to his original novel which was adapted by Miguel Coyula into the 2010 movie Memories of Overdevelopment
