Who was Edward Osóbka-Morawski?

Edward Osóbka-Morawski was a Polish activist in PPS before World War II, and after the Soviet takover of Poland, Chairman of the Communist interim government called the Polish Committee of National Liberation formed in Lublin with Stalin's approval and backing.

In October 1944, Osóbka-Morawski was given the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture. Several months later, in June 1945, he was appointed as Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of National Unity, in office until February 1947. In 1949, at the advent of Stalinism in Poland he was fired from his new job of the Minister of Public Administration for "deviationist" tendencies in spite of having been a devout Stalinist. He was admitted to the communist party during the Polish October revolution of 1956. He worked as a party official throughout most of his life in the People's Republic of Poland prior to the collapse of the Soviet empire, and in 1990 attempted to recreate the old PPS however unsuccessfully. He died in 1997.
