Who was Elam Vangilder?
Elam Russell Vangilder, was a professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1919-1929. He would play for the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers.
His baseball career was brought to an end after suffering from a knee injury that required surgery. Unfortunately the surgery was unable to repair the knee and caused his inability to walk without support from a cane or crutch.
He returned to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he lived out his life on his dairy farm.
