Who is Ella Mitchell?

Ella Mitchell is a African-American soul singer and actress. Mitchell is best known for playing the comic role of Hattie Mae Pierce in the 2000 comedy film Big Momma's House starring Martin Lawrence. She has also appeared in an uncredited role in a 1975 film, Lord Shango, and is credited as a star and co-director of the 2011 short film, Tropfest Junior 2011: The Bar Bee Q. On stage, Mitchell played the lead role of the evil witch, "Evillene", in the original Broadway theatre production of the musical "The Wiz" between 1976 and 1977.
