Who was Emil Beier?
SS Sturmbannführer Emil Beier was a German Nazi politician and Mayor of Ostrava, between 1940 and 1945 in Czechoslovakia during the Second World War occupation.
He was put into the place of Josef Hinner, who was deposed for being "too soft" on Czech officials. As the mayor, he initiated the annexation of 12 municipalities into Ostrava. He also established the mining museum and expanded road communications. He wrote a book about Ostrava, Mährish Ostrau, published by the SS in 1942 in Prague. After the liberation, he was briefly replaced by Josef Lampa.
