Enrico Fiammingo
Painting, Visual Artist
Who is Enrico Fiammingo?
Enrico Fiammingo was a Flemish painter of the Baroque, active mainly in Italy. He initially began as a pupil of Jusepe Ribera in Naples, but then became a follower of Guido Reni in Bologna. There are some works by this artist, in the style of Reni, in the church of San Barbaziano at Bologna.
According to the RKD there were several painters of this name active around 1650, and it is therefore difficult to attribute works specifically to this artist. His name just means "Hendrik the Fleming" and he is possibly the same person as Hendrick van Someren, a pupil of Ribera in Naples who was originally from Amsterdam.
